The Opportunity 

We're looking for a customer-focused Field Engineer to join our growing Data Centre Solutions team. 

This is far more than a traditional field engineering role. You'll combine hands-on technical expertise with solution design, customer enablement and continuous improvement initiatives. One day, you may be supporting a major hyperscale deployment, the next delivering technical training, developing best-practice installation guides, or helping customers optimise performance and overcome complex technical challenges. 

Working closely with customers, installers, project teams and sales specialists, you'll become a trusted technical advisor who helps ensure successful outcomes across every stage of the project lifecycle. 

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving real-world problems, building customer capability, and being on the leading edge of data centre technology. 

 

What You'll Do 

  • Provide expert technical support and field engineering expertise across AFL's data centre connectivity and fibre optic solutions. 

  • Support customers, installers and project teams throughout the deployment lifecycle, from solution evaluation through to testing, commissioning and optimisation. 

  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and deliver practical, timely solutions to support successful project outcomes. 

  • Develop and deliver technical training, SOPs, installation guides and other resources that build customer and installer capability. 

  • Capture customer and field insights to drive continuous improvement across products, processes, deployment standards and customer experience. 

 

About You 

You'll bring a combination of technical expertise, customer focus and a practical, solutions-oriented mindset, along with the following: 

  • Experience working within data centre, fibre optic, structured cabling, telecommunications or related infrastructure environments. 

  • Strong technical troubleshooting capability, with the ability to diagnose issues, interpret test results and deliver practical solutions. 

  • Hands-on experience with fibre optic testing, commissioning and associated test equipment, with exposure to splicing and termination highly regarded. 

  • Confident communicator who can build credibility with customers, installers and internal stakeholders, and translate technical concepts into practical advice. 

  • Self-motivated, adaptable and collaborative, with a passion for customer success, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. 

Please note this role requires regular travel to customer and project sites across Australia and New Zealand, representing approximately 30% of working time.
